The following letter was shared with the Puma Athletics community on July 14, 2020.

Hello Pumas,

I’m following up with you today to touch base about Puma Athletics and next year. When I wrote to you on June 26 I shared information with you at that time as it related to plans for next year’s athletic seasons.  As you know, the world and Covid-19 are changing every day, especially in AZ right now, and there are updates I would like to share with you.

I want to lead with this, PVCC Athletics wants nothing more than to afford the opportunity for as many Pumas as possible to compete in the Navy & White next year!  With that comes great responsibility for all of us to examine what is safest for everyone involved.

As you may have already heard, the NJCAA Board of Regents approved a plan on Monday, July 13 to move the majority of championship seasons from Fall 2020 to Spring 2021.  The lone exception being Cross Country, who’s season they intend to host in Fall 2020.  At PVCC this means that the NJCAA is allowing for Soccer to compete in Spring 2021 along with all of our other spring sports (Baseball, Golf, Tennis, Softball, Indoor/Outdoor Track).

The Presidents of all the Maricopa Community Colleges, including PVCC, and the Maricopa Community Colleges Chancellor are continuing to discuss their plans for Maricopa athletics specifically.  The NJCAAs plan creates a roadmap for athletics in 2020-2021 however, locally our leadership has to determine what is safe here in Maricopa.

I want to be very clear here, the leadership of our colleges are discussing what is best and safest for our student-athletes, athletics personnel and programs in 2020-2021.  Just like they are discussing what is safest for classes on campuses.  The ADs hope that the Presidents and Chancellor will have a decision about athletics in the coming week.

One very important thing has not changed.  All student-athletes on NJCAA Letter of Intent will have their scholarships honored at PVCC if they wish to remain enrolled at PVCC, no matter what happens with athletics.

As always, we will continue to support you as you continue to pursue your goals and aspirations both on the field and in the classroom.  Your coaches, Sarah and I are all here if you need us.  For anything.

No doubt you and your families will have many questions and I encourage you to contact me about anything.

You can expect to hear more from me in the coming weeks.  In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy.

Hang in there Pumas!
